Friend or Food: Sociology of Animals in Society

Catalog description

This course will examine the history and current status of the coexistence of humans and animals in society. In addition to examining the changing views toward animals, some of the specific issues involving human and animal coexistence will be covered, including the use of animals for research, entertainment, food and non-food products, labor, and companionship. The purpose of the course is to provide students with an opportunity to develop an informed opinion about the role of animals in human society and the role of humans in the lives of animals.
