International Relations

Catalog description

The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the study of international relations. Students will engage with many different kinds of questions including; Why do nations go to war?, Why do nations cooperate?, What is globalization?, What is the international economy?, How can international human rights be fostered?, and Can countries protect themselves from terrorism? We will look at past history and current events to help us answer these questions. Additionally, the course will address major theoretical approaches to the study of international relations such as realism, liberalism, and constructivism that attempt to explain the behaviors of both countries and people. Finally, by the end of the course, it is hoped that students will have become globally aware citizens who can think critically about international issues and effectively communicate their ideas with others.
