Catalog description

MA 110 is designed to introduce students beginning the medical assisting certificate to both the practice of medical assisting as well as skills necessary to successfully complete coursework in the program. Students will be introduced to the scope of practice of medical assistants as well as standards of the profession. Instruction will additionally include legal concepts necessary to ensure patient privacy and regulatory compliance, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), the Patient Bill of Rights, negligence and medical malpractice, informed consent, and other relevant laws and regulations. Students will also consider the importance of ethical standards in healthcare practices and develop plans to define and practice ethical and professional behavior as a medical assistant.
