Catalog description
This comprehensive course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's (PTCB) exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings - working under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This course will introduce students to the role of the pharmacy technician, including standards of practice, retail practices and customer service, ethical considerations, and regulatory issues and compliance. Students will gain technical knowledge in names, classifications, and dosage forms of common and required medications, as well as core practices in quality control and ensuring patient safety. This will include instruction in calculating dosages and dispensing medication. Foundational concepts in inventory management and pharmacy administration are covered to better inform students in their roles as pharmacy technicians in the pharmacy setting. Students must receive a grade of C or better to receive the HCC Certificate of Completion.
