Organic Chemistry II

Catalog description

A continuation of Organic Chemistry I. This course will focus on the synthesis, reactivities, and mechanisms of various organic molecules. Topics will include the study of conjugated systems, aromatic molecules, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, esters, amines, amides, and biologically-important molecules. A three-hour lab each week is used to reinforce the lecture material and will emphasize the synthesis, purification, and characterization of organic compounds that feature different functional groups.
