This course is intended for those not majoring in science. The course explores the broad outlines of evolution, focusing on past and ongoing changes in the universe and life on Earth, as they are understood from a scientific perspective. It includes the study of the origin and evolution of the universe, the formation and development of the solar system and Earth, and the origin and evolution of life. Major emphasis is given to the evolution of life as deduced by evidence from the fossil record and from comparisons among living species. Practical applications of evolutionary theory in medicine, sociology and other fields of study are also explored.
