Introduction to Social Work is a survey course designed to provide students with an overview of social work as a profession and the theories, concepts, and ethics of the field. This course provides basic understanding of how the American system of social services and the social work profession combine in order to meet the personal and social needs of marginalized populations. Concepts relevant to social welfare, social change, social support, and structure are examined, including but not limited to systemic oppression, professional goals, values, and roles. In addition, various models and theories related to social work and social services will be examined.

Students are not required to attend any classes on campus or attend online class meetings held at specific times. Exams may be proctored using remote proctoring software online. A computer, high-speed internet, web camera and microphone are needed for Online courses. Students who do not have access to this technology may use the computer labs available on campus.
