Catalog description

A survey of the history of vocal and instrumental jazz music from the late 1800's to the present covering the important jazz styles along with the artists who created them and the cultural, social, political, and economic factors which influenced the art form. The influence of such social themes as slavery, racial segregation, the civil rights movement, and immigration on jazz will be studied. [CSU; UC; CSU-GE, AREA C1; IGETC, AREA 3]
