Urban Crisis - Cities in the United States have gone through a multitude of transformations throughout this nation's history. This course tasks students with rooting urban space in the historical pretexts and contemporary mechanisms used to uphold racial and economic apartheid. Specifically, students will uncover the social, political, and economic policies and practices used to transform urban America while paying careful attention to how these policies and practices are weaponized as a means of both divestment and reclamation of the city. This course is solution driven and tasks students with developing tangible plans to address inequality systematically in the United States. Prerequisite: at least one 200-level sociology course with grade, S, C, or better, and third-year standing.

Section notes
Writing intensive. Faculty will give substantial oral and/or written feedback to students on writing assignments and provide students with opportunities to apply that feedback to future assignments or revisions. At least 50% of the final grade is based on graded writing assignments.
