Balinese Sound Ensemble

Catalog description

The study of musical repertory, technique, and expression through regular ensemble rehearsals and public performances. One credit awarded for each participation in a musical organizatio directed by the department, e.g., Grinnell Symphony Orchestra, Grinnell Oratorio Society, Grinnell Singers, Symphonic Concert Band, Collegium Musicum (early music consorts), Young, Gifted, and Black Gospel Choir, Percussion, Marimba and Steel Pan Ensemble, Latin American Performance Ensemble, Chamber Ensemble, Fresh Flutes Ensemble Jazz Band, Javanese Gamelan and Dance, and Zimbabwean Mbira Ensemble. Practicum may be repeated for credit. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. Note: All participants in musical ensembles are required by the Registrar to register for the course, either for credit (1 credit) or for audit (0 credit) (Please note: credits earned in MUS 101 are NOT counted in the number of credits that determine whether a student is liable for an "overload" fee). Students who join the ensemble after the end of the add/drop period should use the current degree-seeking Audit Registration Form. Faculty, staff, and community should use the non-degree-seeking students Audit Registration Form. A maximum of eight practicum credits may count toward graduation. Credits in Music 101, 120, 122, 220, 221, 320, and 420 may not exceed a total of six in any one semester. Students should note that Music 101, 120, 122, 220, 221, 320, and 420 are included in the 48-credit maximum in the department. S/D/F only. STAFF.SECT
