Examines the rise and fall of the Soviet Union, from the appearance of the revolutionary movement in the nineteenth century to the collapse of the USSR in 1991. Key topics will include the origins of the revolution, the workings of the Stalinist dictatorship, the push to create a "New Soviet Man," the reforms of Nikita Khrushchev, and the causes of the 1991 collapse.
