Catalog description
This course explores the functions of money, the effects of inflation on economic activity and welfare, and the role of banks and financial intermediaries. A variety of modern monetary frameworks will be examined. Topics include the roles of commodity money and fiat money, inflation, capital and banking, liquidity risk and bank panics, and central banking and monetary policy. Prerequisite: Economics 282 and concurrent registration in or completion of Economics 286 or Mathematics/Statistics 336. STAFF.
