Catalog description

Advanced Special Topic: Neuroimmunology. Historically, the brain was considered to be immune privileged. It was believed that body's immune responses didn't impact the brain directly. This was wrong. This course dives directly into literature for an understanding of how the brain and immunology are connected. This course discusses the brain's self-contained immune system as well as several mechanisms of peripheral-to-central immune communication that impact our brain's response to chronic illness, viruses, bacterial infections, and body microbiome. Prerequisite: BIO-251 and BIO-252 or BCM-262.
