Catalog description

Examines the content, methods, and materials for teaching literacy and language arts in early childhood education. Emphasizes emergent literacy, language development, and using developmentally appropriate practices to promote language and literacy for children birth to age 8. Focuses on the concepts taught to young children and effective strategies to teach and assess these concepts. Includes exploration, analysis, and evaluation of materials, activities, and instructional techniques. Provides opportunities to engage in and design meaningful learning experiences. Explores culturally relevant teaching and learning (CRTL) practices and methods to teach diverse learners in literacy and language arts.
