Medical Assisting: Laboratory

Catalog description

This 60-hour course is designed to fully acquaint the student to the clinical laboratory. The curriculum will focus on laboratory safety and skills. Occupational Safety and HLTH Administration (OSHA) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations will be introduced. Guidelines for handling, transporting, and recording of lab specimens will be reviewed. The analysis of urine and its significance in total patient care will be theorized and applied. The student will learn and apply the theory of venipuncture and the various methods of performance. An overview of Hematology, Chemistry, and Microbiology will complete the curriculum. Prerequisite: MED 151. Offered F, Sp, Su.
