Catalog description

This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the theory, knowledge, attitudes, values and skills necessary for one to become an effective human service professional. Topics include human services in the United States, historical perspectives in human services, populations served and needs addressed in human services. Students will also examine SOCI policy and how various human services emerged and the forces that influenced their development. Human service careers, self-development and caring for oneself as a professional will also be addressed. Prerequisite: ENG 099 and MATH 097 Offered: F, Sp, Su.
