Introduction to Behavioral Health

Catalog description

This introductory course provides a foundation in the interdisciplinary study of human behavior, mental well- being, and social services from the perspectives of psychology and the human services professions. Students examine how individual behaviors, psychological processes, family systems, and social environments influence personal functioning and quality of life. The course explores evidence-based approaches for promoting mental health, enhancing well-being, preventing behavioral and social problems, and supporting individuals across diverse populations. Students will be introduced to psychological and human services theories that inform the design, implementation, and evaluation of intervention and support programs. Emphasis is placed on developing programs and services that are culturally responsive, contextually appropriate, and effective in meeting the needs of individuals, families, and communities.
