Ethics, Public Safety, and Emergency Management

Catalog description

This course introduces students entering emergency management and homeland security fields to the ethical frameworks that guide decision-making in public safety contexts. Students will examine real- world case studies to analyze the ethical dilemmas faced by emergency management and public safety professionals. Topics include resource allocation, equity and vulnerable populations, civil liberties, and transparent public communication. Students will be able to apply ethical reasoning to complex emergency management scenarios and develop communication strategies that promote accountability and community trust. Prerequisite: HSE 300 with a “C” or better.
