Catalog description
This first course in a two-part majors sequence provides an introduction to biotechnology and its application in a variety of medical, clinical and science disciplines. Topics include solution chemistry, spectroscopy, chromatography, basic microbiology techniques and DNA and protein purification/separation techniques. This course emphasizes basic laboratory skills essential for beginning level employment in clinical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology laboratories. Lecture 4.5 hours; Laboratory 1.5 hours. Prerequisites: BIO 211, MAT 103 or higher, RDG 099, ENG 099 or placement.
