Catalog description

The uses of the texts by communities who revere or appreciate its content (e.g. Jews, Christians, and Muslims); 2. The relevant historical data which shape the text (e.g. the relationship between text and material culture in historiography); 3. The literary forms of the ancient world (e.g. history, epic, myth, law, prophecy, poetry, wisdom literature, gospel, epistolary literature, apocalypse, etc.); and 4. The ancient Near Eastern literary and cultural backgrounds of the text. Topics will vary by semester and faculty, and students may repeat the course for credit under different topics.
