Catalog description

We examine what it means to be male, female, or another gender. A number of topics related to gender will be covered, including but not limited to: gender differences; gender role socialization, gender identity development; and gender as a biological, psychological, and social construct. We will also consider applications of gender studies research to issue of family, work, relationships, and education. Gender cannot be studied without addressing the intersections of race and class. Thus, emphasis will be placed on appreciating and negotiating the diversity of experiences in gender construction and development.
