Introduction to Dance Fitness

Catalog description
A physical education course designed to provide an introduction to various dance styles often used in dance fitness. This course will help improve balance, flexibility, coordination and enhance the ability to interpret target heart rate performance and rhythm (staying on beat) in a group fitness setting. This course will focus on different styles of choreographed fitness while stretching and toning the entire body and conditioning the cardiorespiratory system. Upon completion of this course, students will: (1) Perform proper posture, balance and moving to the beat (rhythm and timing) in a choreographed fitness routine; (2) Perform assessment of flexibility, balance, perceived exertion and target heart rate; (3) Describe the history and evidence-based benefits of dance fitness exercise.
