Population Health Nursing

Catalog description

This course exposes students to foundational principles of public health practice and care of individuals, families, and populations in non-acute health care settings locally, nationally, and globally. Employing surveillance strategies, students investigate social determinants of health as well as physical and environmental issues impacting population health. Students explore diverse health practice roles in the community and identify resources available for individuals, families, and populations across the lifespan, which help foster health promotion, disease prevention, and risk reduction. Additionally, students apply varied theoretical frameworks and models including Healthy People Goals and Objectives and the Millennium Development Goals, to the processes of family, population, and community assessment. In the clinical component of the course, students apply the nursing process and essential population health concepts in caring for diverse individuals, families, and populations in a variety of non-acute care settings.
