Survey and Analysis of Western Art Music

Catalog description

Emphasis is placed on active listening, concentrating on the unique musical characteristics of each listening example. This course will consider musical styles of particular periods and the works of a number of composers in the Western art music tradition. Students will explore music within its stylistic and cultural contexts, including aspects of form, composition, and social and political significance.
