Catalog description
Special emphasis will be placed on the particular ways of knowing associated with the study of mathematics and incorporating these ways of knowing into learning activities for middle grades and/or high school students. Candidates will design, implement, and assess learning activities for mathematics students. Upon completion of this course a student will be able to: 1. Select content, design and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans and instructional activities based on content-specific theories of learning and current educational reform efforts; 2. Demonstrate proficiency with a range of content-specific concepts from middle and secondary school curriculum; 3. Develop understanding of and use a variety of materials and methods for instruction and incorporate technology into student learning experiences; 4. Develop a variety of strategies for assessing multi- and/or inter-disciplinary content knowledge of students; 5. Develop an understanding of the theoretical relationships between curriculum, pedagogy, and belief systems within a problem solving educational orientation; 6. Design and present learning experiences that integrate problem solving and learning theory into the curriculum.
