Mathematical Modeling

Catalog description

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to (1) Identify the salient characteristics of a mathematical model; (2) Apply a mathematical modeling process to translate real-world problems into models; (3) Evaluate and apply mathematical methods, including estimation, optimization, simulation, and sensitivity analysis; (4) Evaluate different technologies and apply them to the development and analysis of mathematical models; (5) Classify and apply discrete or continuous, probabilistic or deterministic, and empirical or theoretical models; (6) Collaborate as members of a team throughout the development and analysis of mathematical models; (7) Communicate aspects of a mathematical model including the development, results, and conclusions in both oral and written forms.
