Geographical Information Science (GIS)

Catalog description

This course is an introduction to the concepts and uses of GIS. It is an activity-based course. Students will learn to make maps on computer, conduct spatial searches, and do individual projects. Lecture topics include history of GIS, GIS data structures and sources of data, GIS tools, vendors and software, applications, and resources. Exercises include spatial data display and query, map generation, and simple spatial analysis.
