Catalog description
Course topics will vary, exploring techniques to establish and control factors such as narrative distance and point of view, voice and style, storyline and pacing, theme and metaphor, effective dialog, character development, and poetic devices. The course may also delve into nontraditional and hybrid forms such as micro/flash fiction, prose poetry, lyric essay, and blended memoir. Students will leave the course with a reflective portfolio of their work and the tools to continue developing as writers in academic and professional contexts. May be repeated if topic varies.
