Studies in African American Literature

Catalog description

Students will study fictional, non-fictional, and poetic works to explore the racial, gender, social, cultural and political constructions that have historically figured into Americans of African descent's literary imagination and informed their material conditions. Students also learn the conventions, terms and movements that will enable them to engage critically with African American literary expression.
