Catalog description

The course emphasizes pedagogies that support all students' linguistic and literacy needs while honoring their cultural identities, multimodal and digital literacies, and funds of knowledge. Candidates will investigate how linguistic and cultural factors shape oral and written language development, with attention to the relationships among dialects, linguistic variations, and Mainstream American English (MAE). Through critical analysis and applied practice, candidates will learn to design instruction that integrates explicit language teaching with developmentally appropriate literacy and content learning.
