Catalog description

This course examines the design and application of AI agents for engineering research. It addresses the full research lifecycle: literature review and synthesis, hypothesis formulation, experimental design, and data analysis. Topics include agent architectures, large language models as reasoning components, knowledge integration, tool use, and compound AI systems. Applications are drawn from engineering, healthcare, and the physical sciences, including HPC-based simulations and automated laboratory systems. Students implement and evaluate agentic workflows, with emphasis on robustness, reproducibility, and research ethics. Offered by Systems Engr & Operations Rsch . May not be repeated for credit.
