Community-Based Research Methods and Program Evaluation. 3 credits

Catalog description

Provides an introduction to community-based research methodology and methods for social science. Students will learn core practices of collaborative inquiry, strategies for community partnering at every stage of the research process, and techniques for collecting and analyzing empirical materials in the context of community-based inquiry. The course will cover some of the central methodological issues relevant to doing community-based research, especially as it relates to program evaluation, and ethical and epistemological considerations that arise with collaborative inquiry. Students will engage with a core set of activities involved in program evaluation and spend considerable time on individual projects both inside and outside class.
