Examines a range of philosophical issues arising from a close analysis of the conceptual foundations of the life sciences. Addresses fundamental questions pertaining to the nature of life and the structure of biological theories and explanations. Explores key concepts in the life sciences such as organism, gene, function, mechanism, and adaptation. Examines the relation of the life sciences to other disciplines and areas of inquiry.
