Catalog description

Introduces graduate students to elements of jazz arranging and theory including transposition, instrument ranges, instrument registers, instrument texture, melodic paraphrasing, intros/endings, approach techniques, functional jazz harmony, re-harmonization, voicing types, rhythm section notation techniques, arranging for chamber ensembles and score/manuscript preparation. For DMA students, the course requires a significant paper demonstrating pedagogical and/or analytical research. Offered by Dewberry School of Music . May not be repeated for credit.
