Advanced Audio Synthesis. 3 credits

Catalog description

The goal for this course is to train students in the technical skills needed to work with a variety of synthesizers and samplers. Students will learn how to use different synthesizer components and techniques to manipulate audio and to create their own sounds from scratch. We will discuss different synthesis techniques such as additive, subtractive, FM, AM, wavetable, granular, and physical modeling. Discussions will also revolve around important synthesizers, types of sounds, and important pioneers in the field of synthesis and sound design. Students will work on a variety of sound design projects to exercise their skills and explore using the different techniques discussed in class. Offered by Dewberry School of Music .
