Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to the law governing liability for injuries caused by defective products. Topics include theories of recovery (negligence, strict liability, and breach of warranty), design and manufacturing defects, failure to warn, causation, and defenses. The course also considers policy debates over the scope of product liability, the role of federal regulation and preemption, and contemporary challenges posed by emerging technologies and pharmaceuticals. Through case analysis and discussion, students will gain a foundational understanding of how product liability law shapes corporate behavior, consumer protection, and access to remedies.Offered by Law.
