Catalog description

Provides students with hands-on experience designing and evaluating large language model (LLM) applications in healthcare. Introduces students to LLM APIs, prompt engineering, chain-of-thoughts, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and agent-based frameworks. Engages students in applied labs using clinical and electronic health record data to prototype tools for documentation, information extraction, conversational agents, and decision support. Exposes students to evaluation of model performance, reliability, bias, hallucination risk, privacy, and HIPAA-compliant deployment. Prepares students to build and assess practical LLM solutions for clinical and public health environments. Offered by Hlth Admin, Policy/Informatics . May not be repeated for credit.
