This course provides students with advanced knowledge and foundational principles for the design and operation of High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission systems and Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS). The curriculum examines key technologies, including STATCOM and other FACTS controllers, within the context of modern power grid challenges. Topics include system planning, detailed design, modeling, control, protection, and operational strategies for HVDC and FACTS devices. Theoretical concepts are reinforced through simulation-based studies and a comprehensive class project focused on system-level analysis and performance optimization. Offered by Electrical & Comp.
