Catalog description

Cryptography is the basis of modern secure communication, data storage, cloud computing, Internet of Things, smart cards, and secure digital devices. This course introduces the basic concepts of cryptography and the mathematical background required for understanding the algorithms and security estimates. Topics include modern symmetric ciphers, modes of operation, public key cryptography (RSA, elliptic curve cryptosystems, post-quantum cryptography), data integrity and authentication, digital signature schemes, random number generators, key exchange and key management, efficient software and hardware implementations of cryptographic primitives, attacks against implementations and relevant defenses, and requirements for the implementation and validation of cryptographic modules. Offered by Electrical & Comp. Engineering . May not be repeated for credit.
