Catalog description

Provides a structured introduction to the reverse engineering of embedded systems based on a microcontroller board programmed in bare-metal mode, i.e., without an operating system. Starts with fundamental embedded C programming and progresses to function-level development. Students will apply both static analysis and dynamic analysis to reverse-engineer embedded applications at each stage. Through hands-on exercises, students gain practical experience in forensic analysis, debugging, and low-level software exploration and exploitation, developing a comprehensive understanding of embedded systems and reverse engineering methodologies. Equivalent to DFOR 680 . Offered by Electrical & Comp. Engineering . May not be repeated for credit.
