Catalog description

As the use of mobile devices, embedded systems, and always-connected technologies increases, wireless communication and network systems are becoming increasingly essential in daily life. Despite the growing emphasis on security and privacy in modern technology, the security and privacy aspects of the wireless networks that link our ubiquitous devices remain less thoroughly understood. This course aims to train students in wireless threats, modern defenses, the fast-growing intersection of AI/ML with wireless systems, and attacks specifically targeting AI-enabled wireless systems. It covers the latest security mechanisms, trends, and practices for securing conventional (e.g., 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) and AI-enabled wireless networks (e.g., open/virtualized radio access network). It strongly focuses on jamming, spoofing, man-in-the-middle attacks, MAC-layer misbehavior, cross-layer attacks, and how wireless networks can be exploited to compromise AI-enabled systems.
