Using primates as a focal taxon, this course will explore the natural history and biology of living non-human primates, including prosimians, monkeys, and apes. Primates are a diverse group of long-lived, socially complex animals and one of the most charismatic yet highly endangered vertebrate groups on the planet. Topics covered include primate traits, origins, evolution, taxonomy, distribution, ecology, social organization, and behavior. Additional focus will be on the conservation status of primates and the role of primates within the ecosystem. This course is an excellent introduction to those interested in biological anthropology, behavior science, and zoo, museum, or conservation work. Offered by Provost's Office .
