Catalog description

This course critically examines Western and top-down approaches to health communication that emphasize individual behavior change and questions how this can marginalize individuals. In doing so, this course approaches the discussion of health communication with a critical eye toward addressing social and health inequalities within and across cultures from local, national, and global perspectives. Specifically, this critical discussion of health communication will be situated within socio-cultural, economic, historical, and political contexts rather than simply as a physical and biological condition of health and illness. Offered by Communication . May not be repeated for credit.
