Water and Sanitation in Low-income Communities. 3 credits

Catalog description

Introduction to challenges and opportunities associated with achieving universal access to clean water and sanitation. Topics include engineering of sustainable water supplies and sanitation services in low-income communities; household water treatment and on-site sanitation technologies; public health and socioeconomic benefits of water and sanitation; economics and financing; community participation and the role of NGOs; water insecurity in high-income countries. Students will read and discuss primary literature and conduct individual and group research projects to identify challenges and opportunities for expanding access to water and sanitation in specific communities.
