Directed Reading and Research in Bioengineering. 3 credits

Catalog description

This course will provide students an opportunity to research and write about a specific bioengineering topic that is directly pertinent to their dissertation work in a course format. Students will develop skills in surveying relevant literature, identifying existing gaps in knowledge, methods, or technology, and proposing relevant solutions to address these gaps. The course will provide students structured and guided process to develop their technical and research skills necessary to produce a coherent and relevant set of ideas for their dissertation. The course is intended to be taken before students defend their dissertation proposal and advance to candidacy. Students will identify relevant reading materials and journal articles, and additional materials may be assigned by the instructor. Class time will be used to discuss technical topics, provide peer review and feedback, and instruction on strategies to develop an impactful and novel dissertation research proposal.
