Catalog description

This course will introduce the students to biopharmaceutical products, such as vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, biosimilars, and others, and the processes required to manufacture these products. The elements of biomanufacturing that will be discussed include the biological expression systems, upstream and downstream processes, formulation, and vial filling. Operational parameters of bioreactors, separation/isolation methods such as chromatography and a variety of analytical measurements will be discussed. In addition, students will learn about the quality systems that need to be in place to ensure product purity, safety, and potency. The course will also cover the current and future challenges in biomanufacturing of novel biopharmaceuticals. Offered by Bioengineering . Limited to two attempts.
