Catalog description

This course prepares students for today’s and emerging data- and AI-driven workplace by combining rigorous database foundations with ethical integration of current and evolving intelligent technologies. Students gain a deep understanding of database modeling and design, query languages, database programming, and system implementation techniques, while exploring AI workflows for prompt engineering, design critique, bias mitigation, and privacy oversight. Core topics include the relational data model, ERD/EER modeling, normalization, and advanced SQL querying and optimization, as well as modern and emerging database technologies and architectural trends, such as cloud-native systems, distributed databases, performance tuning strategies, and data governance considerations. Through hands-on practice, collaborative activities, and an AI-integrated project, students graduate with job-ready skills and the confidence to lead in data engineering, analytics, and AI-enabled systems.
