Catalog description

54 hours lecture per term. This Honors-enhanced course is a survey of representative works by American writers since 1865, and it emphasizes literary trends in and historic backgrounds of American drama, fiction, poetry, and prose. This course includes a consideration of Realism, Regionalism, Naturalism, Modernism, and Postmodernism through the study and critical discussion of representative writers central to the development of American literature. The emphasis is on the diversity of American subjects and styles. This course emphasizes discussion and exchange based on students' presentations and independent research.
