Catalog description

This course will build on the teacher candidates' knowledge of applied linguistics and extend their understanding of the nature and role of language in classrooms. This course will prepare teacher candidates to plan for, instruct, and assess English Language Learners (ELLs) in K-12 settings. The teacher candidates will examine research-based strategies for supporting English language development as well as promoting comprehension and acquisition of grade level content. Curriculum development and assessment activities will be tied to content, language, and literacy goals for ELLs. This course requires fifteen (15) hours of field experience in a K-12 classroom setting.
