Catalog description

Directed practice designed to provide the student with a strong foundation in facility and pro-fee medical coding and revenue management. Activities will include the review, analysis and coding of inpatient, ambulatory surgery, emergency room, and physician office health records according to established guidelines. A mock certification exam will also be completed. This course is a combination of working in the HIM lab and off-site experiences. General employment guidelines will also be reviewed. Students will be placed in the community to apply their coding skills. Minimum 30 hours to be done during regular work hours.
